Anantapur District is a district in Andhra Pradesh, India. Anantapur City is the district headquarters.

Geography of Anantapur 
Anantapur  district is bounded on the north side by Kurnool District, on the southeast side by Chittoor District,  on the east side by Kadapa District and on the southwest and west side by Karnataka state. It is the largest district of Andhra Pradesh spanning an area of 19,130 km².

Main Rivers : Pennar is the main river of this district. Chithravathi, Vedavathi, Papagni, Swarnamukhi, and Thadakaleru are the other rivers of this district.

Latitude of Anantapur city :  13′-40′ and  15′-15′ Northern
Longitude of Anantapur city :  76′-50′ and 78′-30′ Eastern

About Anantapur District 
Anantapur offers some vivid glimpses of the prehistoric past. It is generally held that the place got its name from ‘Anaatasagaram’, a big tank, which means “Endless Ocean”.
